The Essence of Vedic Mantras: From the book MYSTIQUE VIBRATIONS

Essential Vedic Mantras to get rid of Human pain & Sufferings

The Sanskrit word “mantra,” from the roots “manas” (the linear thinking mind) and “tra” (to cross over), has found common use in Western vernacular.
Though today we tend to equate mantras with spiritual aphorisms or repeated affirmations, mantras are traditionally defined as “sonic formulae that take us beyond, or through, the discursive faculties of the mind and connect our awareness directly and immediately to deep states of energy and consciousness,”.
The Mantra’s are the Yoga of Sound: Tapping the Hidden Power of Music and Chant. Many ancient mantras serve as vehicles for the mind to cross over the material world and into enlightenment.
The basic principle of mantra recitation is this: to use sound to cut through mental clutter, facilitate meditation practice, and create a deeper state of awareness. “A mantra provides a way to go beyond negative thoughts,”
“Why should we attempt to go beyond negative thoughts? All of our words spoken, or said silently in our minds, create the reality we live in.” Mantras, then, not only have the power to evoke holiness or positivity, but indeed they can transform the reality of our perception.
Many of the sacred mantras chanted in yoga studios today are thousands of years old, dating back to Vedic times, and were created by sages and practitioners of early Hinduism and Buddhism. Sanskrit mantras are said to be particularly sacred because of the sounds and syllables that make up this ancient language.

Oh, what an Awakening
There are 84 meridians on the roof of the tongue that are stimulated through Sanskrit mantra, and scientific evidence shows that mantras can facilitate the release of secretions that strengthen our immune and neurological systems. “Yogic mantras stimulate the secretions of the pituitary gland, which is located only millimeters from the palate…certain permutations send signals to the command centers of the brain—the hypothalamus, and the pituitary, primarily, and also to the pineal gland, [which] orchestrate a healing response and send out packets of information in the form of neurotransmitters and chemicals, in the brain and throughout the body.
Though some common mantras call upon Hindu deities, their main purpose is to cultivate awareness, intention, and elevated connection. “Mantras become the interface for mankind interacting with his spiritual world.
Though these mantras link to a specific religious tradition, the power of sound is paramount. “Virtually all spiritual traditions see sound as a key component of practice and connection to the divine or sacred. “The most important mantra of all, Om, is completely non-denominational and non-religious in the sense that it’s basic symbolism is creation itself.” Creation, and the evocation of its properties, are not owned by any religious tradition.
The following phrases are a few examples of common mantras you may encounter in yoga class or meditation.
Om Namah Shivaya
This salutation to Shiva, lord of destruction and transformation, and one of the primary gods of the Hindu Trinity, is perhaps the most common mantra in the Hindu and yogic traditions. “Om Namah Shivaya” is often referred to as “the five-syllable-mantra”—evoking the five elements of existence: earth, water, fire, air, and space. It is a Vedic mantra said to be both purifying and a healing. This mantra is particularly potent given Shiva’s connection to death and destruction. A key element of yogic philosophy is coming to terms with our own mortality and the impermanence of existence. Om Namah Shivaya, then, is not only elevating in the sense that it brings the chanter closer to the divine, but also in its courageous affirmation: I take solace even in the unknowable and unimaginable path of destruction.

This powerful mantra, which has deep roots in India and in Tibet, is one of the most commonly chanted mantras in the world. Every Tibetan child is taught Om Mani Padme Hum by their parents, and many Tibetan Buddhists chant the mantra as part of their ritual practice, thousands of times per day. Its meaning, as translated by the Dalai Lama, is: “The jewel is in the lotus, or praise to the jewel in the lotus.” The lotus, in the yogic tradition, symbolizes the profound ability of transformation: to emerge out of mud and blossom into a thousand-petaled flower.

This Hindu and Buddhist chant, which arises out of the Vedas, has been translated most commonly as, “May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.” In many ways, this mantra is the be-all and end-all for yogic purpose, as well as a clear embodiment of what the 14th Dalai Lama likes to call the spiritual practice of enlightened self-interest.” We chant for our own personal transformation, not because we personally desire enlightenment, but rather so that we may contribute to the global transformation that will alleviate suffering and herald equality. “By working for the well-being for others.
Benefits of Chanting Vedic Mantras
Mantras can help improve your inner and outer being. Bring peace, harmony and balance at home, offices, relationships and take you further on your spiritual journey. Every mantra invokes a specific energy and has a specific effect on the body and environment, some of these being,
Manifestation of thought
Awakening of higher centers in the body
Warding off negativity and heaviness
Mental peace and focus
Stillness of body and mind
Clarity of thought
Emotional decongestion
Reduced levels of hyperactivity

When a man constantly thinks about objects, attachment for those objects arises. From attachment is born desire, and from desire is born anger. From anger comes delusion, from delusion comes loss of memory, from loss of memory comes destruction of intellect, and once the intellect is destroyed, he perishes.

Find Happiness Within Yourself

Happiness and emotional fulfillment are within your grasp.

We all want to feel happy, and each one of us has different ways of getting there. Here are 10 steps you can take to increase your joie de vivre and bring more happiness into your life:

1.     Be with others who make you smile. Studies show that we are happiest when we are around those who are also happy. Stick with those who are joyful and let rub off on you.

2.Hold on to your values. What you find true, what you know is fair, and what you believe in are all values. Over time, the more you honour them, the better you will feel about yourself and those you love.

3.Accept the good. Look at your life and take stock of what’s working, and don’t push away something just because it isn’t perfect. When good things happen, even the very little ones, let them in.

4.Imagine the best. Don’t be afraid to look at what you really want and see yourself getting it. Many people avoid this process because they don’t want to be disappointed if things don’t work out. The truth is that imagining getting what you want is a big part of achieving it.

5.Do things you love. Maybe you can’t skydive every day or take vacations every season, but if you get to do the things you love occasionally, you will find greater happiness.

6.Find purpose. Those who believe they are contributing to the well-being of humanity tend to feel better about their lives. Most people want to be part of something greater than they are, simply because it’s fulfilling.

7.Listen to your heart. You are the only one who knows what fills you up. Your family and friends may think you’d be great at something that really doesn’t float your boat. It can be complicated following your bliss. Just be smart, and keep your day job for the time being.

8.Push yourself, not others. It’s easy to feel that someone else is responsible for your fulfilment, but the reality is that it is really your charge. Once you realize that, you have the power to get where you want to go. Stop blaming others or the world, and you’ll find your answers much sooner.

9.Be open to change. Even if it doesn’t feel good, change is the one thing you can count on. Change will happen, so make contingency plans and emotionally shore yourself up for the experience.

10.Bask in the simple pleasures. Those who love you, treasured memories, silly jokes, warm days, and starry nights—these are the ties that bind and the gifts that keep on giving.

Happiness and fulfilment are within your grasp, but sometimes just out of reach. Understanding what works best for you is the first step in finding more of them.
Visualize yourself happy, doing the things that will bring you inner and outer success in life and write down the things you need to do to create a Happiness Bucket List. Start with the little things you know you can do each day that will bring you joy. Then move on to accomplish greater and greater things on your happiness bucket list.

An Englishman, a Frenchman, and a Russian were once discussing the meaning of true happiness.
The Englishman said, "True happiness, my friends, is rising early on a frosty autumn morning, getting on top of a good horse, and galloping off behind the hounds in pursuit of the fox. A hard ride over fields and fences and rivulets until the fox is brought down. A ride back with the ears and the tail and then sitting before a roaring fire with a glass of good port. Ah, that is true happiness."

The Frenchman said, "That is not true happiness. That is merely animal pleasure. True happiness is meeting with the love of your life, having an intimate meal in a topnotch restaurant with champagne, and then retiring to a wonderful hotel room, where you can make frantic and impassioned love all night long. Ah, that is true happiness."

The Russian said, "That is not true happiness. That is merely a good time. True happiness comes when you are sitting in your apartment after a hard day at the factory, your little Ivan on your knee, and reading your copy of 'Pravda'. There comes a knock at the door. Three men in ill-fitting brown suits come storming in and say, 'Stepan Stepanovich?' and you say, 'He lives in the room upstairs.' Ah, that is true happiness."

A cat died and went to Heaven. God met her at the gates and said, "You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you want is yours for the asking."

The cat thought for a minute and then said, "All my life I lived on a farm and slept on hard wooden floors. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on."

God said, "Say no more." Instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow.

A few days later, six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. God met the mice at the gates with the same offer that He made to the cat.

The mice said, "Well, we have had to run all of our lives: from cats, dogs, and even people with brooms! If we could just have some little roller skates, we would not have to run again."

God answered, "It is done." All the mice had beautiful little roller skates.

About a week later, God decided to check on the cat. He found her sound asleep on her fluffy pillow. God gently awakened the cat and asked, "Is everything okay? How have you been doing? Are you happy?"

The cat replied, "Oh, it is WONDERFUL. I have never been so happy in my life. The pillow is so fluffy, and those little 'Meals on Wheels' you have been sending over are delicious!"

Happiness is not the same as joy or ecstasy; happiness includes contentment, well-being, and the emotional flexibility to experience a full range of emotions.

The Science of Happiness: The Happiness Shift

In philosophy, happiness translates the Greek concept of eudemonia, and refers to the good life, or flourishing, rather than simply an emotion.

Since the days of Aristotle, happiness was thought to have at least two aspects: hedonia (pleasure) and eudemonia (a life well lived). In contemporary psychology, happiness is referred to as simply pleasure and meaning. Positive psychologists such as Dr Martin Seligman have recently added one more distinct component to the definition of happiness: engagement. Engagement refers to living a “good life” of work, family friends and hobbies.

What is Happiness? A Definition of Happiness

Possibly the best place to start defining happiness is by defining what it is not.
Many people believe that happiness is having fun at a party, the excitement of new experiences, the thrill and passion of sex, or the delights of a fine meal. These are all wonderful experiences to be cherished and cultivated but they are not happiness.
These experiences are the definition of pleasure. They are experiences to have and let pass. A meal to savor, then digest. A party to enjoy then let wind down. The passion to enjoy and the warm afterglow to linger in.
Pleasure is fleeting and must be if it is to continue to please us because if we have these joyful experiences all the time, our brains adapt and turn pleasure into routine. Once that happens, it takes even more to make us feel good again. Chasing pleasure is not happiness.
So, if happiness is not the same thing as pleasure, then what is happiness?
Happiness is…a warm puppy. Just kidding, warm puppies are pretty nice but I’m putting the puppy squarely in with pleasure. After all, would it still be fun to hold a warm puppy for a month? I don’t think so. So, what is happiness?
Happiness is when your life fulfills your needs.
In other words, happiness comes when you feel satisfied and fulfilled. Happiness is a feeling of contentment, that life is just as it should be. Perfect happiness, enlightenment, comes when you have all of your needs satisfied.
While the perfect happiness of enlightenment may be hard to achieve, and even harder to maintain, happiness is not an either /or case. There are nearly limitless degrees of happiness between the bliss of enlightenment and the despair of depression. Most of us fall somewhere between, closer to the middle than the edges.

What Are Your Essential Needs to be Happy?

Since happiness is when your life fulfills your needs, the next logical question is, “What are my needs?”
Over the millennia many have offered answers to this question and nearly all came back with too simple answers to what is, at its core, a complex problem.
Let me ask you a question. Would you say that you, like all humans, are complicated to understand? Of course you are. We all are. If we weren’t life might be much simpler but also much less rich. That complexity means that there are no simple, one-size-fits-all answers to what makes us happy.
Our individual needs vary based on our genetics, how we were raised, and our life experiences. That complex combination is what makes each of us unique, both in our exact needs, and in every other aspect of what makes us the person we are.
We may each be complex but we are all human and that provides the foundation on which we can discover our essential human needs. Just as we are all born looking human on the outside, we all share common basic needs on the inside. Where we differ is exactly how strongly we feel each of those needs.

WE PROMISE stands for:

  • Wellbeing – mind-body connections, aspects of your physical body that affect your mood, and vice versa
  • Environment – external factors like safety, food availability, freedom, weather, beauty, and your home
  • Pleasure – temporary experiences such as joy, sex, love, and eating
  • Relationships – as a social species, relationships are at the foundation of what it means to be human
  • Outlook – how you approach the world through adventurousness, curiosity, and making plans
  • Meaning – having a purpose and the wisdom to understand it
  • Involvement – to be happy you have to be engaged and actively involved
  • Success – confirmation from yourself and others that what you do has value
  • Elasticity – how you recover from life’s inevitable negative events
These 9 categories cover the range of human needs in a very general way and are intentionally overlapping, just as our thoughts and feelings overlap in our mind.
For example, the thrill of a roller-coaster ride is a mix of:  fear (Elasticity), joy (Pleasure), adventure (Outlook), shared experience (Relationships), safety (Environment), upset tummies (Wellbeing), the courage to ride (Involvement), and the reward of having done it (Success). All these are experienced in one event, many at the same moment in time.
While the WE PROMISE categories are a convenient way to organize and simplify our universal needs, they are just the beginning – we are each more complex than that.
Within each category are 5 to 10 specific items which we call Happiness Essentials.

If someone says that you are a donkey, how do you feel? What does it do to you? What does it create? Anger! It shakes you. It creates some negative vibrations; you feel angry. You feel some sensations in the stomach, in the head.

If a bad word can create so much physiological reactions in you, do you think a very sweet name, a chanting, which includes a lot of energy of the cosmos does not do anything to your body?
