HAND MUDRAS FOR IMPOTENCY/ED

Hand mudras to help you harness strength, vitality, resilience and peace.

From harnessing strength, overcoming difficulty and increasing your sense of vitality, practicing mudras can have a significant effect on the way our body and mind.

Hasta mudras or hand-gestures speak with eloquent silence, and are used in art, religion, culture, yoga, meditation and personal life, consciously or unconsciously. Each finger of hand represents an element of nature and has a subtle energy-field. The thumb is symbolic of fire, index finger of air, middle finger of space; ring finger, of the earth, and little finger, of water. In Tantric anatomy, the thumb is associated with the solar plexus-chakra, index finger with heart-chakra, middle finger with throat-chakra, ring finger with root-chakra, and little finger with sacral chakra. By bringing the thumb in touch with one or more fingers, one can deepen one’s connection with the elements represented by them, and invigorate prana.

“When a mudra is done with full concentration, and a state of serenity is maintained, cerebral activity is calmed and regenerated,”

Your hands hold an innate healing power that has been used for centuries for healing various ailments like

  • Problems with erection
  • Low libido due to low testosterone levels
  • Premature or delayed ejaculation
  • Inability to cope up with the partner's demands due to low stamina
  • Fatigue

Erectile dysfunction is becoming increasingly common today, and if you are worried for your partner, yoga Mudra can be a wonderful solution!

Benefits of Ling Mudra:

1. It burns the extra fat in the body that helps in weight loss.

2. This mudra increases hotness in the body that helps to relieve cold and related ailments such as sinusitis, wet cough and sticky stools.

3. Regular practice of 30 minutes is enough to get desirable results. This mudra should be practiced only when there is a need.

Ksepana Mudra: A Mudra for Letting Go

In Sanskrit, Ksepana means to throw (away), to let go, pour off or to cast off. Ksepana mudra is the mudra for letting go of waste known as mala in Ayurveda. This waste, or mala, can be literal physical waste, toxic relationships, negative thoughts, or old habits, samskaras, and vasnas that don’t serve your highest self.

Ksepana Mudra Practice:

To practice Ksepana mudra interlace the fingers of both hands and then release the index fingers. The index fingers are touching one another. The thumbs are crossed and the thumb pads rest, more or less, in the crook between thumb and index finger. When seated and practicing this mudra the index fingers should point down. The index fingers should point toward your feet when practicing this mudra lying down.

You can also practice this mudra in your asana practice. A flow that I like to do in a seated posture.

1.   Begin with the mudra at heart center. Index fingers pointing up.

2.   On an inhale turn the index fingers to point down and slightly away, extending the arms long toward the floor.

3.   Using the same inhale breath sweeping the arms up overhead.

4.   Exhale index fingers come to the crown of the head, to the forehead, the nose, then the lips and back to the heart like a waterfall tumbling over smooth stones.

5.   Each inhale envisions vibrant, light energy flowing into your body and on your exhale let go of negativity in any of its forms.

6.   Practice a total of seven times.

Benefits of Ksepana Mudra:

Ksepana mudra helps us release negativity, frustration and suffering. Practicing the mudra, especially as stated above, creates a palpable difference in our energy. I call this letting go mudra an “attitude adjustment”.

Matangi Mudra:

Matangi Mudra is a sacred hand gesture or 'seal,' named after the Hindu Goddess Matangi. It is used as a means of relieving tension, improving digestive function, nourishing the circulatory and lymphatic systems, relieving anxiety and cultivating determination.

Matangi mudra can also help to strengthen the breathing impulse in the solar plexus, helping to restore energetic balance in this area.

Follow these steps to practice Matangi mudra:

1.   Come to a stable meditation posture.

2.   Bring your palms together at your solar plexus (navel center) with fingers interlaced.

3.   Point both middle fingers up and place them together.

4.   Direct your breath to the solar plexus or belly area.

Benefits of Matangi Mudra:

This mudra can be practiced as often as required, for at least four minutes at a time. For maximum benefits, practice Matangi mudra three times per day.

The physical benefits of Matangi mudra may be attributed to its stimulation of the hypothalamus. The heart, stomach, liver, duodenum, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, and kidneys all benefit from this mudra, and it particularly aids in reducing spasms or aches in the stomach.

Muladhara Mudra:

It is believed to improve elimination of waste, tones muscles and organs of the pelvis, heals incontinence and hemorrhoid's, increases sexual hormone production, increases fertility, creates stability and centeredness. Though stimulating sexual thoughts is a part of the human anatomy, this mudra helps balance it to its productive and required limits. It helps channel the thoughts to focus on all areas and aspects of a person’s life with a steady practical approach.

Benefits of Muladhara Mudra:

1. Regular practice of this mudra helps keep the urogenital system healthy. Excretory wastes are flushed out of the system efficiently, and the functioning of the genitals, anus, and rectum is effective.

2. Sexual organs work efficiently. The practice of this mudra can address male and female reproductive issues. Ailments like erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, vaginal dryness can be treated by this practice.

3. All pains, aches, and cramps felt at the feet, legs, and sacral spine are connected to the Muladhara chakra imbalance, and this mudra stimulates the chakra.

Ashwini mudra (horse gesture):

Performed by contracting the sphincter muscles of the anus and then relaxing them, Ashwini mudra may be integrated with yoga postures and can also be practiced anytime, anywhere in seated or lying down position. It is believed to awaken Kundalini Shakti and useful for PE.

Ashwini mudra is excellent for exercising muscles of the rectum, colon and perineum. It increases the blood flow to the penile vasculature. It also works to tone up and release the stiffness in your abdominal area and area under the navel. Close your eyes and sit in lotus position/ padmasana. Inhale and bend your head to fix the chin in the chin lock position. While holding your breath, contract and relax the anal sphincter five times. Increase the speed of contraction. Repeat.

Vajroli mudra (thunderbolt/spontaneous psychic attitude)

This mudra is practiced by drawing the urethra upward, the muscle action being similar to holding back an intense urge to urinate. Vajroli mudra involves the functioning of muscles similar to Kegel exercises, which is suggested to gain voluntary control over Pubococcygeus muscle and can provide men with stronger erections and better ejaculatory control. It also strengthens the pelvic floor, which may help men to attain orgasm without ejaculation, and thus a man can achieve multiple “climaxes” during the sexual act. According to yoga physiology, Vajroli mudra regulates the entire sexual system, regulates testosterone level and sperm production. It gives control over PE and helps correct impotence.

Vajroli mudra helps boost blood circulation and helps tone the pelvic area. This is why it is recommended for men suffering from erectile dysfunction. Sit in Padmasana or lotus position. Place your hands on your knees, lean a little forward and close your eyes. Draw your urinary muscles in and hold your breath for a count of 5. Release your breath and then repeat.

Sahaj Shankha Mudra:

How to perform:

1.   Interlock the fingers together, pressing the palms against each other.

2.   Join both the thumbs at their length, laying them parallel to each other, pressing down on the index finger of the right hand.

3.   Place the palms, face-up, on your knees or thighs.

4.   Keep your spine and head straight, shoulders relaxed.

5.   It is a simpler form of Shankha Mudra.
